2012 Goals for Engine Performance
The difference between last year's engine and the new one is simple: the new one is bigger. Not just in the cubic inches, but all over the engine. Bigger block, bigger camshaft, bigger cylinder heads, bigger valves, everywhere it made sense or there was a weakness, it was upgraded. Last year's engine was pushing the limits of the hardware, bigger cams and heads could have been used, but would have cut down the reliability of the engine. This engine will have a more radical cylinder head/ camshaft combo because it is designed to; it is a complete race-spec engine. Last year, the engine had several good off the shelf parts, this year the engine is custom-tailored to the needs and abuses of drifting. Last year's engine will be rebuilt as a complete backup engine that will travel with the team. |
